Silicone oil is generally colorless (or light yellow), tasteless, non-toxic, non-volatile liquid. Silicone oil is insoluble in water, methanol, glycol and ethoxyethanol, and can be dissolved with benzene, dimethyl ether, methyl ethyl ketone, carbon tetrachloride or kerosene, slightly soluble in acetone, dioxane, ethanol and butanol. It has a small vapor pressure, high flash point and ignition point, and low freezing point. With the number of N segments, the molecular weight and viscosity increase. The viscosity of the solid silicone oil can be varied from 0.65 cm to millions of centigrade. If the low viscosity silicone oil is to be prepared, the acid clay can be used as the catalyst, and the polymerization can be carried out at 180 ℃ or sulfuric acid as catalyst, and the polymerization can be carried out at low temperature to produce high viscosity silicone oil or viscous substances with alkaline catalyst. Silicone oil has heat resistance, electrical insulation, weather resistance, hydrophobicity, physiological inertia and small surface tension. In addition, it has low viscosity temperature coefficient, high compression resistance, and some varieties also have radiation resistance.
